Richard F. Jensen, Ph.D., has been a licensed clinical psychologist in Washington state since 1985 (License #PY00000987). He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at the University of Washington. He completed his Masters degree and Doctoral degree in Clinical/Community Psychology at the University of Wyoming (an APA-approved program).

He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Morrison Center for Youth and Family Services in Portland, Oregon (an APA-approved program). He completed a post-doctoral fellowship and was later employed as Staff Psychologist at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Prior to entering his private practice full time, Dr. Jensen was employed as Associate Professor of Psychology and Department Chair at Seattle Pacific University and as a psychological consultant to the Swedish Hospital Eating Disorders Program in Seattle, Washington. In addition to his private practice, he had an appointment as a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for the University of Washington Medical School.

Dr. Jensen’s theoretical orientation tends toward briefer forms of psychotherapeutic intervention typically involving educative, cognitive and behavioral approaches to therapy. Janis L. Peterson, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Janis L. Peterson, Ph.D. has been a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington since 1988 (License #PY00001248). She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Purdue University, her Master of Science Degree in Psychology from Washington State University, and her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont. She also completed a one-year post doctoral fellowship in Child Clinical Psychology at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Prior to joining the Family Center for Behavioral Health, Dr. Peterson has been in several private practice groups in both Washington and New Hampshire. She has also been a school psychologist in New Hampshire, taught Community College as well as being a Clinical Instructor in the graduate program of Psychology/Psychiatry at Dartmouth Medical School.

Dr. Peterson’s theoretical orientation focuses primarily on cognitive behavioral and solution focused interventions. Within this framework the client is actively involved in developing their treatment plan as well as engaging in “homework” outside of individual sessions. Dr. Peterson works with older adolescents and adults, in individual and couple formats, with a focus on changes throughout the lifespan including entry into adulthood, career options, marital issues and divorce recovery, pre-retirement preparation, and general happiness and well being. Gregg R. Karle, M.S.W., has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1979 and holds licenses in Washington State and California. He is also nationally certified by the Academy of Certified Social Workers. Undergraduate and graduate degrees were earned from San Diego State University. Internships were completed at University of California San Diego Medical Center and the Veterans’ Administrator’s Hospital in LaJolla, California.

Gregg has been employed in hospitals and in outpatient settings providing medical social work services and individual, family and group psychotherapy. Gregg owned and directed Psychosocial Consultants of San Diego, which provided consulting and clinical services to thirty long-term care facilities in San Diego County.

Gregg has practiced in Gig Harbor for the past 20 years, including five years with the Center for Therapeutic Intervention and then co-founding The Family Center for Behavior Health in 1994.

Gregg’s clinical orientation is based on humanistic and systems theory with additional training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and stress management techniques. He is a Level II Certified EMDR therapist and has completed certified training through the Gottman Institute in Seattle.

She earned her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Denver and completed her internship at Riverbend Community Mental Health in Concord, NH. Mark F. Lins is a Washington Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 2002 (LH 00007725). Mark completed his Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and theology at St. Francis de Sales College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1977. He received a Masters in Divinity degree at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee in 1981.

He furthered his education with a Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, WI in 1985. He continues to be licensed in Wisconsin since 1985 and also attained his National Board for Certified Counselor status in 1991. This is a specialized certification for counseling and involves three years of testing and certification and yearly education requirements to retain this status.

Alesia A. Black MS ARNP is a licensed Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She recently moved from Salt Lake City, Utah where she was in outpatient practice since 2006. Ms. Black earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of the State of New York, Regents College in 1995, as well as Bachelor's Degrees in Behavioral Science and Health (1983) and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry (1995) from the University of Utah. Ruth L. Varkovitzky, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington since 2013 (License #PY60368488). She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She earned her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from Northern Illinois University and completed her internship at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. She received further postdoctoral training at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She came to the Pacific Northwest in 2013 and has devoted her career to public service, treating Veterans returning from war.
